I don’t ever remember saying I want to go to the doctor, but I looked forward to every appointment I had at your office. I was excited to see my teeth without braces, but I was also very disappointed to realize that I was done. …I can’t believe that Sam’s last appointment was today! I didn’t expect to be as emotional as I was, but we have so many years invested in the warm, caring practice that you built. That’s not something that will be easily forgotten. It’s the end of an era for us, and now all three kids move on to their adult lives, smiling all the way!
I just might be the first Jewish clergy member that has had their kids as a part of your practice, so I want to leave you with some ancient words from Pirkay Avot, the Ethics of our Fathers. Rabbi Tarfon said: “It is not our job to complete the work, but we neither are we free to desist from it.” You built a life and a practice that embraces the Jewish concept of “tikun olam” the repair of the world, a job we all must work to complete. Your generosity of heart and spirit in our community and beyond is an example to the hundreds of people who have crossed your paths professionally and personally. I am proud that my family was one of them.

We met Dr. Hime when Nathan was small-
Two sets of braces, now Nathan is tall!
It can’t be so easy to straighten a mouth,
A tooth going north must end up facing south!
And it can’t be so easy to make a kid happy,
When his mouth is all sore and he thinks he looks crappy!
But doctor, you have a way with big kids and small,
There’s something about you that makes them feel TALL!!
You’re one of those people, when you are around him,
You feel that the work is a good place to be in.

How Braces Have Made My Life Better
When I first heard I was getting braces,
I did not feel relief,
I felt more like Charlie Brown,
I told my mom “Oh Good Grief!”
When they put them on I thought my life was filled with strife,
But it turned out that I was really glad and not so sad.
My teeth don’t tell lies,
But they love to eat pies,
Man I love those little guys.
If you ask how braces have changed me,
Just look on my face and you will see.
My teeth are straight,
And now for the ladies I’m just bait.
Not to mention my bright smile,
That will last for a long, long while.
So don’t talk with no’s and can’t,
And definitely don’t wet your pants,
When you hear the info about caring for your braces,
Remember it’s as easy as tying your shoe laces.
When you asked how braces made my life better,
I was going to sit down and write you a letter.
However, besides the end results, there’s no measure,
Getting to know your office has been my pleasure!
Straight teeth are AWESOME!
